Mackenzie Carlson.jpg

Mackenzie Carlson, BA (She/her/hers) is a graduate student at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota studying for her master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. Before coming to Mindful Families, Mackenzie spent many years working in outpatient settings with children diagnosed with autism and their families—supporting them through navigating daily life and behavioral challenges, peer interactions, and building emotional regulation skills.

Mackenzie is passionate about continuing to work with children, adolescents, and their families as they navigate challenges, life transitions, and relationships. She strives to create a warm, nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard and understood in order for clients to feel empowered to show up as their authentic selves. Her approach to therapy is integrative– using Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Bowenian Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Play Therapy to curate a unique client experience that caters to each client's goals.

Her hope is to guide clients in building emotional regulation skills and coping skills that help in understanding relational patterns, the stories clients hold and develop healthier connections to not just others but themselves. Mackenzie enjoys incorporating play and creative expression to meet clients where they are at and to provide other ways of communication and processing emotions.

She believes that every individual and family has strengths, experiences, and perspectives that are unique to them—her goal is to collaborate with clients to figure out what works and support meaningful growth at a pace that feels comfortable for them. She has completed the PSI certificate training for the treatment of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders in hopes of working with new mothers as well. Mackenzie is currently under the clinical supervision of Amy Englhard, MA, LMFT.
